STYLE GURU STYLE: Pastel Daydreams

The days are getting warmer, and there is an excitement in the air as we say goodbye to finals and welcome our old friend summer. With the frantic elation that comes with the end of school, I gravitated toward the soothing colors featured in the whimsical Vionnet spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection.  They focus on Pantone’s Colors of the Year, Serenity and Rose Quartz—subtle shades reminiscent of daydreams or Rococo paintings.

To me, these colors worn together establish a soft and pretty feminine look. Call me a hopeless romantic, but the pastels evoke endless warm days of tranquility and innocence. I especially enjoy Pantone’s choices this year because they represent a peaceful aesthetic break from the stark darks of the fall and winter. It is refreshing to see these airy, light shades being incorporated into wardrobes.

I was immediately drawn to this stretchy crop top due to its beautiful, blush pink color. The high-waisted jeans I paired with it are lighter than the sky blue hue of Serenity, but still evoke the same sense of repose. I of course had to add my favorite bag ever, which is conveniently the exact color of Serenity. I contrasted this weightless color palette with a simple black and gold sandal that I felt solidified the ensemble.

I wanted to translate the ethereal looks featured on the runway into a more wearable street style, but still maintain the same peace of mind Rose Quartz and Serenity create. I look forward to seeing more of this fresh color scheme on outfits everywhere this summer.
