STYLE GURU STYLE: On the Run

New York City has been plagued with gloomy weather this past week. The only reason you’ve gone outside is because you absolutely have no other choice. It’s been a struggle to put my best fashion foot forward when the weather is telling me to keep my sweatpants on and stay inside. Fortunately, I have found the perfect compromise: practical neutrals and flattering patterns. After raving over the 3.1 Phillip Lim fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection, I decided to combine a few key elements of the runway show in order to add flair to my “could’ve been” lazy errand outfit. The executions of the grunge pieces and leather fabrics offered great ideas on how to fashionably win the battle against these summer showers.

I have the habit of dressing to reflect the weather. Hence, my dark hues of blue and black. I have become obsessed with the recent turtleneck comeback. The high-collar tops in the runway show were instant inspiration; it’s an easy way to add sophistication to any look. A simple black turtleneck is a staple for those gloomy days. As we all know, a statement piece is essential to any outfit. My patterned leather jacket is my go-to for outerwear when I want to spice up any ensemble. The neutral-colored zigzag prints across the torso were a great combo for the structured leather sleeves and shoulder pads of my jacket.

I decided to roll up the bottom of my high-waisted jeans to give off a summer vibe on this rainy day. Paired with my comfy running sneakers and my oversized tote bag, I was ready to take on any obstacle I would face that day. Am I the only one that has dressed for chilly, early mornings and ended up looking weather confused as the day warmed up? I tried to combat the issue by making sure the upper half of my body was fully covered while my lower half was exposed enough to keep me cool. My faux-cropped jeans also worked well in correlation to the ankle-length pants featured throughout the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection. Therefore, I declare that my attempt to mimic the collection’s color schemes and texture combinations was well executed!

Get My Look: 1. A black turtleneck. 2. Patterned jacket. 3. Cropped jeans. 4. Navy blue tote. 5. Running sneakers.
