STYLE GURU STYLE: Old Is New

With summer coming to a close, this month has been significantly more fast-paced as we prepare to head back to school. The time for rest and relaxation is rapidly slipping away and along with it goes the time to spend on yourself. Yet, with just a few key pieces it’s not too hard to stay on trend while wandering around campus as the temperatures continue to decline. One of the biggest trends of the moment is the off-the-shoulder top and it is one that is readily available at every store and makes for a good transition between summer and fall.

I drew my inspiration for this look from J. Mendel’s fall 2016 couture show which heavily featured off-the-shoulder looks. The shoulder-baring tops seen on the runway had straight lines and neutral colors. Although my outfit is clearly a significantly more casual look, better for the start of classes than the catwalk, the tone and simplicity of it remains the same.

For my take on J. Mendel’s style, I paired a plain black off-the-shoulder top with blue ripped jeans and black slip-on shoes. I like to keep it simple and easy but made it slightly more edgy with the black belt. I love the details in the silver buckle and it adds a little edge to any look. Also, going along with J. Mendel’s throwback to the ‘80s, I paired the top with a silver choker that has a simple, dainty floral vibe.

From New York to Paris, off-the-shoulder tops are taking the fashion world by storm. Any Fashionista can put their own twist on this trendy look, taking it from the classroom to a night out with friends.
