STYLE GURU STYLE: O-M-Givenchy

The Givenchy fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection combined 1920s sleekness with 1970s glamour. It featured blousy chiffon dresses, chic boyfriend blazers and vintage-inspired fur coats and stoles. These pieces were then modernized in prints reminiscent of reptiles and insects and a refreshing color palette comprised of peach, red, mint and black. One of my favorite looks contained a leopard jacket with pops of red. I loved how this bold combination was paired with a nude pleated skirt, allowing it to appear classic and ladylike, but still modern.

I attempted to create a similar look by pairing a red dress with a leopard cardigan. This red lace skater dress is one of my most treasured items in my wardrobe. The tulle peeking out from the skirt and the intricate beading up top make it extremely feminine and unique.

Since the dress was a solid color, I decided to add a printed cardigan for contrast and warmth. Naturally, I chose something leopard, as its neutral colors make it the perfect mixing pattern.

I polished off my look with some basic black tights and my Jeffrey Campbell Litas. These cult-classic lace-up booties helped elevate my look and made it appropriate for the occasion: lunch at a quaint little tearoom.

While the dress was more playful and the cardigan was more conservative, the bold colors and prints helped make this outfit fun and wearable. From the color palette to the different textures, this look essentially sums up my personal style: playful, feminine and vintage-inspired, but with a bit of an edge.

Get My Look: 1. A red lace dress. 2. An animal-print cardigan. 3. Jeffrey Campbell Litas.
