STYLE GURU STYLE: Not Afraid Of Frayed

When it comes to wearing denim to work, more often than not we are told a dark wash is the most professional out of all the washes of denim. However, the denim brand, Sea, proves otherwise, demonstrating stone washed denim can work when styled correctly. Pairing denim with crisp, polished tops and dresses not only makes a professional statement in the workplace, but can also bring a laid-back coolness outside of the office.

To achieve this dual-functional look, I looked no further than the Sea spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. The collection encapsulates how to elevate your minimalist staple pieces by mixing them with whimsical details, such as elaborate embroidery, intricate lace, fringed trim and frayed denim.

For my look, I followed the cool color palette Sea used throughout its collection, sticking to white and blue. I selected a clean, boxy shirt reminiscent of the polished side of the collection and paired it with a denim wrap skirt to exude my casual side.

By pairing the skirt with a simple shirt, I allow my skirt to have its faded glory, as the frayed hem is the focus of this look. The wrap style of the skirt not only gives a more interesting way to display the frayed hem, but also complements the strong silhouette of the shirt.

You can bet I’ll be wearing this look throughout my summer internship, as it is crisp yet loose and breezy. This may or may not turn into my go-to internship uniform!

Get My Look: 1. Any boxy button-up shirt. 2. Frayed denim wrap skirt. 3. Heeled monk shoes.
