STYLE GURU STYLE: No Stress Dress

Hey Fashionistas/os! In preparation for the upcoming school year, I decided to do a fall transition look. This look was inspired by Halston’s fall 2008 ready-to-wear line. Transition looks are every college student’s best friend when it comes to fashion. They prevent you from having to spend money on new clothes every season; instead, you can work your summer clothes into fall looks!

Loving Halston’s use of the shirt dress, I wanted to incorporate a similar piece into my look. I recently came upon this gray cotton tent dress, on sale nonetheless, and decided it was the perfect addition to my wardrobe. Despite the many times I’ve worn it plain with just some simple accessories, I thought it would look great tucked in instead. The one problem in tucking any loose dress is that it can cause bulkiness and have a weird shape; however because tent dresses have such a specific silhouette already, they look great tucked in.

Also, since I was working with a similar color palette to Halston, I decided I would follow his love of textures as well. I paired the cotton dress with a dressier skort and wore textured Birkenstock sandals to finish the look. With this look, you could wear accessories, but Halston keeps his looks minimalistic and I wanted to as well. I stuck with my simple black sunglasses and a black halter bra to add something interesting at the neckline, in place of a necklace or other jewelry.

Get My Look: 1. Gray tent dress. 2. Black skort. 3. Halter bra.
