STYLE GURU STYLE: New Year, New Me

The beginning of a new year can entail many things. New semester of school, new daily schedule, and above all else, new resolutions are a few of the new obstacles that can come about when the clock strikes midnight on December 31. I think New Year resolutions are great, but let’s be honest, how many of us actually go through with our resolutions? I, for one, have struggled to keep up with promises of a New Year’s resolution. For the everyday college student, our main resolution typically sounds a bit like this: “I’m going to get all A’s in my class this semester,” or “I’m going to study more, workout, and eat healthier.” If you are someone who says this and actually accomplishes it, power to you because I haven’t been able to accomplish any of my resolutions in the past, like ever.

When thinking about what New Year’s resolutions I want to create for myself this year, I find myself reiterating the ones of my past: be healthier, try harder in school, and don’t binge watch Netflix so much. I always tell myself this time around I will actually do it and I always fail. Yet here I am in 2017, ready to say those same words again and more determined to accomplish them.

Another thing that most fashionable college students, and maybe even fashionable adults, think when it comes to New Year resolutions is, “If I want to accomplish something, I’ve got to look the part right?” Well, as a hopefully, fashionable person, I am here to tell you that this is true! In order to be the part, you’ve got to look the part. Now, this doesn’t mean it’s all about the looks; in my unbiased opinion, I believe that if you have a killer outfit that makes you feel confident, you will be confident and want to succeed.

With all that being said, here is my New Year’s resolution: to be healthier and fit in my day-to-day life. Now that I’ve declared it, I need the outfit to match right? For years, my go-to color has been “all black, everything.” So I paired my black Nike running shoes with a pair of black Lululemon running pants and top. I finished off my look with a green baseball cap with the outline of Texas. This outfit makes me feel more active just by putting it on! It makes me want to do 100 squats and run a mile (I probably won’t right away), but it also gives me the confidence that I can.

So here’s to the New Year and all the resolutions and new experiences it brings!
