STYLE GURU STYLE: Modernity and Florals

Modernity can be such a vague word. What exactly defines something to be modern? In technical terms, it means having characteristics of a modern society that are up to date with current economic and technologic trends. Designers and stylists on the other hand, see modernity in different perspectives. Modernity to designers is mixing classic elements with modern trends, like pairing together a plain colored, sheer blouson with a patterned and structured high-waisted pant.

Take the Emanuel Ungaro resort 2017 collection for example. The collection features defined silhouettes, clean edges and contemporary cuts. Revisiting the classic ‘80s style, strong shoulders were given a modern look by being smaller scaled and clean cut. Floral prints were kept modern by making them geometric and bold, like a futuristic garden. The mix of black and white with vibrant colors pulls the whole modern look together, giving off a polished and sophisticated feel. Everything about this collection is artistically modern.

There was one particular look in this collection that inspired my outfit. A pair of geometric floral cropped, wide legged pants reminded me of a pair of pants I thrifted. Keeping the look simple, I paired my crop floral, pegged pants with a classic black, mock turtleneck. Adding to the structured modern look, I chose a pair of two strap sandals.

This modern look can be both sophisticated and causal and can be worn almost anywhere. Take the look to your summer internship and show the office you mean business or on the town for a casual patio dinner date.

Get My Look: 1. Cropped floral pants. 2. Mock turtleneck tank top. 3. Strappy sandals.
