STYLE GURU STYLE: Mixed Messages

This past summer, I bought a short sleeve Sass & Bide dress and instantly fell in love with the brand’s structure, tailoring and unexpected cutouts. It’s no surprise that Sass & Bide’s pre-fall 2015 collection is perfection from beginning to end. I think it’s extremely rare to be in love with every look in a collection, but each individual look was just a fabulous, if not more so, than the last. Overall, the collection was all-black, featuring touches of denim, pattern, leather and the color gray. While the looks were rather simplistic and monochromatic, they also possessed a cool, edgy vibe thanks to the addition of leather jackets, skirts and tops.

Because I loved the Sass & Bide pre-fall 2015 show as a whole, I decided to use components of different looks from the collection to create my very own ensemble. Inspired by the pop of “color” in the collection, I began my look by slipping on a cozy, oversized gray sweater. I opted for one that wasn’t too thick and bulky so I would be able to layer. To capture that necessary bit of edge, I added a leather jacket. I was fond of both the skinny pant silhouette and the denim element, so I decided to combine the two and wear my favorite pair of dark wash skinny jeans. Lastly, I added a pair of simple black booties that would jive with my outfit as a whole. I wanted to keep my look clean and simple, so the only jewelry I decided to add was a pair of small pearl earrings.

I love how this look combines different fabrics, textures and silhouettes to articulate messages of femininity, edginess and simplicity. My sweet, feminine earrings and rugged, more masculine leather jacket are juxtaposed. The long length of my sweater and cropped jacket give dimension to my look while the unique, eye-catching details, like the quilting on my jacket’s sleeves, really amp up my look. Overall, this Sass & Bide collection has inspired me to create chic day-to-day outfits that are equal parts unique, cool and simple.

Get My Look: 1. The perfect leather jacket. 2. An oversized gray sweater. 3. A pair of simple black booties.
