STYLE GURU STYLE: Meet the Midi Dress

A midi dress is the perfect in between of a classic short dress and a maxi dress. Although the midi dress isn’t a new trend, it is a style that has become increasingly more popular. From runway shows to “it girls” to everyday Fashionistas, this style is effortless and accessible. My first introduction was from Victoria Beckham. Her body-conscious midi dresses took the fashion world by storm. I recently was inspired by Beckham’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Her take on the spring season was impeccable. She stayed true to herself by featuring hourglass midi dresses; however, she experimented with knits, leather and outerwear.

I found myself inspired by Beckham’s entire collection. I fell in love with the way she styled her dresses with pointed boots, as well as how she used leather detailing within the accessories. She also featured mid-length outerwear that went perfectly with her feminine dresses. I took inspiration from this runway show and translated it into a midi and leather jacket combo.

I replicated Beckham’s look through pairing my long sleeved midi dress with a pair of pointed booties. I then added a leather jacket for an extra grunge factor. I kept the look clean with few accessories. However, I added a pair of statement, silver sunglasses to make the look more fun. Statement sunnies are always a great addition to a minimalistic look. I completed this look with a simple bracelet to keep the silver tone continuous throughout the outfit.

Next time you go out, don’t be afraid to rock the midi dress. It is an easily accessible trend that makes all that wear it fierce.
