STYLE GURU STYLE: Masculine Made Feminine

One of my all time favorite women in the fashion industry is Phoebe Philo. She’s incredibly stylish and talented, turning the old fashion house Céline into a cult classic that every fashion girl on the planet is coveting. Every collection she sends down the runways for Céline is completely swoon-worthy from start to finish. Her fall 2014 ready-to-wear collection during Paris fashion week last March was particularly to die for. The show featured duster coats, statement earrings, leopard prints and Céline’s signature long layers. Philo talks about her inspiration for the looks in a backstage interview with Vogue: “I started from menswear, and then found the feminine, going deeper into fabrics and silhouette,” she said. “It’s very personal.”

I had been looking for the perfect camel coat for ages so I kept Philo’s masculine made feminine inspiration in mind when shopping. I think I finally found a winner, which was heavily inspired by a particular look from that Céline show.

Today was the coldest day ever so I definitely needed layers. I paired my warm duster coat with a soft and oversized borrowed-from-the-boys style button down and my go-to pair of comfy jeans. I’m so short so I always run for heels. My Chelsea boots are my current favorites. I finished the look with by new obsession – my Mansur Gavriel inspired bucket bag from Forever 21. This outfit was perfect for running errands and using up my last free day of winter break.
