STYLE GURU STYLE: Making The Cut

The 6397 resort 2016 collection embodies what I personally admire most about fashion; applying innovative cuts and fits to timeless pieces. It’s all about slouchy, loose-fitted tailoring in designer Stella Ishii’s vision, which results in a new take on casual ready-to-wear this season. What’s interesting about this line is that pretty much every piece can most likely be found in the closet of any Fashionista/Fashionisto. The collection centers on the basics we all know and love–classic denim bottoms, graphic T-shirts, casual button-down tops and even T-shirt dresses–combined with the 6397 design team’s take on a new classic.

Out of all the pieces featured in this collection, my favorite would have to be the ivory button-down shirt dress. I chose to replicate this look with a similar shirt dress I own from James Perse. Staying true to how the look is presented on the model, I opted for simple platform sandals and no jewelry. Instead, I wanted the ensemble to be focused on the intricate details of the dress itself: the low V-neck, the high-low hemline and the loose-fitted tailoring. To make the look a bit more my own, I decided to wear my hair in a half-up do with a low bun, which I’ve been wearing constantly this summer.

Simple pieces can be taken to the next level with the right styling and tailoring. Although I stuck with the designer’s minimal styling in my look, adding a statement accessory to the ensemble would work perfectly for you bolder Fashionistas/os. The T-shirt dress can be worn in so many different ways, making it a great piece for anyone to have in their wardrobe.
