STYLE GURU STYLE: Make an Overall Impression

June 26th, 2015 at 2:00am

Over the past few months or so, overalls have been making a huge comeback. Overall dresses, pants and shorts have been spotted on the shelves in all the biggest stores. One can argue that this trend was initially started after overall designs have been debuted on the runways by the biggest designers. A favorite show of mine is definitely Sonia Rykiel’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Her clean, structured lines and neutral color palettes are similar techniques that I strive to incorporate in my everyday look.

Something that I love about overalls are their ability to look effortless and timeless. I was so excited to discover that they were coming back in style because I definitely had more than a few pairs growing up.

I was recently deciding what kind of overalls I wanted to purchase for the summer. I was torn between buying a classic pair of overall shorts like these, or opting for a more unique look in an overall dress, which is ultimately what I purchased. I found this awesome piece at Forever 21 and had a hard time choosing between black and the denim blue color, but choosing the denim color felt more like the classic overall feel and I figured I should add a little color in my wardrobe for the warm months ahead. I found this to be a great purchase because of how versatile the piece is and its ability to be dressed up or down for ultimately any occasion. I chose to wear Converse low-top sneakers with this dress for a more casual look, but switching those out for a pair of booties or sandals can make the outfit dressier.

If your’e really digging the overall trend and you’re willing to splurge, check out these awesome white denim dungarees from Zara. I would love to purchase these! Next time you’re looking for outfit inspiration, look to your favorite designer. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to get inspired!
