STYLE GURU STYLE: Major Multicolor Faux Fur

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a huge fan of fur and faux fur. No other textile can compete with the immensely luxurious vibe that fur emits. This season, I was delighted to see the runways decked with incredibly glamorous fur pieces. There’s nothing more beautiful than a statement fur piece done right. For fall 2015 ready-to-wear, Stella McCartney, Rodarte and Jason Wu all sent fur pieces down the runway that caused my jaw to drop in awe.

But it was Prabal Gurung who really blew me away with major fur coats in his fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. His designs strayed from what one would expect from a fur coat and let fur shine in an entirely new way. He incorporated fur with other textiles for the most stunning, unique coats. He also mixed different colors and prints within the fur textile itself, creating one-of-a-kind fur pieces. He took the idea that a fur coat just has to be one color or one textile and threw it out the door completely. He showed the fashion world just how great different textiles work with fur as well as how luxe multicolor fur can be.

In the past, I’ve stuck to traditional, one-color fur coats. This season, I decided to boost my style by playing around with the idea that fur coats don’t have to be just one color. I scooped this multi-color, black and white faux fur coat up at Forever 21. It mimics the idea behind the trend that Prabal Gurung sent down the runway but is definitely tame enough to be worn on a regular daily basis. The black and white color of the coat also make it incredibly versatile.

For this look, I wanted to stick to a basic, dark, neutral color palette. However, I didn’t want the look to fall into being boring. I started with a little black dress, but with a twist. I pulled out a little black dress with provocative mesh detailing for a bold statement. To keep warm, I layered a long, black duster cardigan with the dress. Then, I slipped into a pair of patterned tights accentuated by basic black socks. I also wore a pair of metallic silver statement booties. To emphasize the silver color of the booties, I accessorized with a major silver statement necklace, a few dainty silver rings and a rad pair of silver sunglasses. Pretty lilac colored nails and red lipstick added just the pop of color that this look needed. I threw my coat on over my look and felt ready to take on the world.

Get My Look: 1. Multicolor faux fur coat. 2. Little black mesh dress. 3. Statement silver booties.
