STYLE GURU STYLE: Maison Margiela

With the ice melting and spring just around the corner, it is time to shake off the cabin fever and venture into the warmer world. Beat the snow blues by taking a look at the upcoming spring 2015 couture collections that are bringing back color into our wardrobes. One of my favorite collections was the Maison Margiela spring 2015 couture line, which showcased monochromatic outfits and geometric patterns. For my outfit this week, I decided to take a cue from Margiela and work in my favorite elements of the runway show into my look.

Besides the sunshine, spring also brings back the ability to go running outside without putting yourself in danger of tripping and slipping on ice. For my Margiela-inspired outfit, I took the colors and patterns used, but placed them in a fun and sporty look. My favorite looks from the runway show consisted of outfits that were vibrant red from top to bottom. To emulate this in my own style, I paired my most colorful monochromatic running attire and dared to be bold. It is not very often that a single color can look flattering from head to toe, and for this reason I contrasted the neon yellow with black leggings. Though I was not able to wear a single color for my entire outfit, the leggings had great detail. Another element that I admired from Margiela’s show was the use of three dimensional appliqués to create patterns in the outfits. Since I was not about to glue household objects onto my clothes, I opted for already printed leggings that look almost futuristic.

I love incorporating ideas from the newest runway shows into my outfits, and it’s especially rewarding when the outfit is functional as well as fashionable.
