STYLE GURU STYLE: Louis, Louis

Summer is in full swing Fashionistas and Fashionistos, and I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite things to do in the summer is to get all dressed up, and go for a drive. Since you gotta have some good music to match the great style, I like to play music from different decades, and a song I heard the other day helped to inspire this look. The song is called “Louie, Louie” and was a hit in the early ’60s. But for me, when I think of “Louie,” I think of Louis Vuitton. One of the looks from the spring 2016 ready-to-wear line is what inspired my outfit.

The outfits in the show consisted of a lot metallic pieces, with a punk rock vibe. I don’t own a lot of pieces that would match directly with the look, so instead, I went for creating a look that was inspired by the pieces that the models were wearing.

The LV outfit I was working off of was composed of a silver-grey crop top with a black, checker-patterned vest layered over it, a choker necklace, a metallic silver skirt and black loafers. I wanted to make my outfit more feminine and suited for summer, so I chose a crop top that had a black base with daisies printed on it. Instead of a black vest, I DIY-ed a denim vest, by cutting the sleeves off an old denim jacket I had, and distressed it. I decided to use a red bandana, instead of a choker, to add a pop of color to the outfit. On bottom, I wore one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe: a black, faux leather skirt with eyelet detailing along the bottom. I’ve had it for years, and the texture juxtaposed nicely with the denim on top. I thought too, that the denim and faux leather combination made the outfit seem a bit more edgy, paying homage to Louis Vuitton show. To top off the look, I wore a pair of tan loafers that have a cute, tassel detail.

To accessorize, I wore a brown, cross-body bag that held all my summer essentials, including my MAC cosmetics lip pencil and lipstick in “Honeylove,” which I used in this look. The runway models wore lots of false lashes and mascara on their top lashes, so I decided to go with a heavy, winged liner and lots of mascara, as well. Lastly, I kept it minimal with the jewelry to really focus on the pieces of the outfit.

I really like the look I created, and I encourage you to put your own spin on it. I hope you enjoy the last part of your summer, and maybe consider going for a drive!
