STYLE GURU STYLE: London's Bird's-Eye View

July 6th, 2015 at 2:00am

Greetings from across the Atlantic! Currently, I am writing between Dublin and London as I await my arrival to the UK. With 42 minutes to go, I am beaming—so what could serve as a more appropriate time to go into detail about one of my favorite outfits?

It may be summer, but it is still comfortable enough to sport an outfit inspired by the effortlessness of the clothing in the Electric Feathers spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. After all, comfort and style serve as partners during summer travel. Why sport adidas track pants and sliders when you can traipse the city in culottes or, better yet, harem pants? The latter rules this runway show.

No culottes were harmed in the preparation of this outfit since I opted for a pair of harem pants that I purchased from Rag-O-Rama in Little Five Points. My favorite aspect of this outfit lies in the side design where tiny swallows fly above flora and other fauna. Although these pants are not as avant-garde as the Black Swan reminiscent outfit in Alexander McQueen’s fall 2009 ready-to-wear show (which currently headlines the Savage Beauty exhibit at the Victoria and Albert Museum) they provide enough expression and comfort for a day in London.

Partner these pants with a simple blouse or sheer tank top as not to distract from the focal point: the side design. These chunky sandals ensure that my feet remain safe during long summer walks and the “APRÈS SKI” oversized clutch complements the deep blue of the birds in the design. Step aside, London Eye. Summer 2015 calls for a bird’s-eye view.

Get My Look: 1. Simple tank top. 2. Statement harem pants. 3. Heeled sandals.
