STYLE GURU STYLE: Less Is More

After the holidays, everything seems dreary and gray. Classes and responsibilities replace days of Netflix and family. Winter brings snow, sleet and slush. Just getting out of bed is a struggle. You can forget about getting dressed in the morning. Luckily, we can all draw inspiration from the Nili Lotan pre-fall 2015 collection. The collection oozes casual cool, featuring relaxed, androgynous silhouettes, utilitarian outerwear, chunky knits and shades of gray throughout. The looks are pared down and demonstrate the understated impact of minimalism. The best thing about this style? You can practically roll out of bed looking chic and still have time to grab coffee. Getting dressed in the winter has never been easier.

This look is all about the texture, silhouette and color, or lack thereof. Inspired by Lotan, I chose an all gray palette. I made sure to grab a pair of relaxed boyfriend jeans that are comfy enough to sleep in and definitely comfy enough to sit through hours of classes in. I added some depth to an otherwise basic look by pairing a quilted sweatshirt and a textured coat. The different shades of gray add visual interest, while the emphasis on outerwear makes the outfit come together. The models in Lotan’s show appear sans-accessories, so I followed suit. To add some femininity, you could add a basic silver watch or tiny necklace. I finished the outfit with a trusty pair of sneakers. Together, these elements create a simple look that is so easy you could get dressed in the dark.

Get My Look: 1. A textured coat. 2. A gray top. 3. A pair of boyfriend jeans.
