Summer is the season of leisurely and relaxed styles. We can get away with wearing our favorite pieces that give us comfort while still looking chic and stylish. Here is an example of how I put together a relaxed, fun, colorful and put together look for a summer day.
I took inspiration from the kate spade new york spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This collection is described as being able to, “celebrate those moments when it’s time to put down the phone,” and “think about things one does outside of the office, like swimming, lounging and just being.” That is where the relaxed, loose-fitting components come from that are shown in several of the collection’s looks. The collection focused on the “wideness” (AKA the relaxed aspect) of the pieces: boxy shaped tops, wide sleeves, loose pants, etc.
For my own personal style, I prefer to go loose fitting in one aspect and slim fitting in the other. That is why I chose my loose fitting bright green boxy shaped top and paired it with my favorite pair of dark wash skinny jeans. Besides her emphasis on “relaxed silhouettes,” kate spade new york’s collection called for, “flats, lots of flats.” I went ahead and paired my favorite pair of casual brown Michael Kors sandals that have a low chunky heel (I always love to add a slight bit of height even when wearing sandals). The majority of the looks in this collection sported little to no jewelry, so I decided to wear a simple drop necklace to complete the look and maintain the minimal and effortless tone. I finished my look with a neutral colored shoulder purse.
Overall, kate spade new york’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection emphasizes a relaxed, minimal and chic look that is perfect for any occasion during the spring and summer seasons.
