STYLE GURU STYLE: Layered and Lovin’ It

Oh, Mercury Retrograde. You’re here again, with your messy lessons and momentous tests. Lots of rethinking, reflecting, reorganizing… Mostly, the last month has been a whole lot of constructive turmoil and inner revelations for the Libra soul, but I’m not complaining. It’s provided me with ample motivation for honing and developing my autumn style, which was proving to be a difficult feat without the aid of Mercury. Yet here we are, clear-headed and better than ever!

As Mercury makes its slow return back “home,” I’m able to focus on the real question at hand here: What’s my style? I wanted to showcase my classic go-to outfit that never fails me. I thought I’d bring out this look, as it’s been a staple since the onset of my college career. It’s a fun, versatile, and quick solution to a busy Monday morning before a long day of overwhelming classes.

Let’s start from the bottom and work our way up. These killer wedged booties are from Johnston and Murphy, and they’ve been longtime weathered friends in my shoe closet since 2012. The little heel gives me some height to make my legs look even longer than they are, which is never a bad thing! I threw on my favorite jeans from American Eagle Outfitters–high-waisted and ripped to shreds. Graphic T-shirts make an outfit, and the more vintage the better, in my opinion. I’ve had this Grateful Dead tank top since forever, so it’s super worn in and comfy–the best qualities of an old concert tank. This long-tailed army green jacket is perfect for staying warm against those pesky autumn winds while keeping me looking stylish! Oh, and I can’t forget the big sunnies to cover up the sleepy eyes–the first month of classes is tough to get used to.

This outfit is incredibly versatile and easy to manipulate for various occasions. Sometimes I substitute out my wedged booties for Dr. Marten’s or high top Converse All-Stars for a grungier look. Wearing leggings rather than jeans is the way to go during those lazy mornings where I want to look cute yet comfy. If it’s a bit chillier in the morning, I like wearing a flannel under my jacket. When it gets a little warmer, I can just tie it around my waist! Layering is a must this season.

Use this time to learn more about yourself and what’s important to you in style! I’m all about the rad shoes, the long army coats, and the vintage T-shirts. It’s easy, it’s stylish, and it feels like me! That’s the important thing when it comes to personal style–it has to reflect YOU.
