When I say that I can not stay away from neutrals, it is the full truth. If you knew me a few years ago, you would have laughed at this statement. I lived for bright pinks and blues and had far too many statement necklaces and funky blazers. As time went on though, my love for a good black or cream piece strengthened, and eventually took over my closet.
This outfit, inspired by the earth tones that Kanye West’s Yeezy season 2 is known for, is a great neutral outfit for early summer. Kanye’s collections have been focused on neutrals, monochromatic palletes and a sporty aesthetic since the start. I found that out of all the looks in his spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, look 22 was the one that resinated with me the most. The black contrasted with the taupe underlay is flattering on many people, and is one of my favorite color combinations
In my outfit, I went with a suede tan top with lace-up details. The lace-up trend, which can be seen in tops, shoes and bodysuits, is easily one of my favorite details of the year. It can be made casual or dressy, depending on how you style it. A pair of black skinny jeans and lace up wedges completes the main look of the outfit.
Keeping with the minimal look, I decided not to fully accessorize. Much like Yeezy, I do not like to overdo an outfit with tons of accessories. I pick simple statement pieces that can be versatile. For this occasion, I went with my standard watch and a pair of white crystal earrings. My sunglasses, a staple of any summer wardrobe, finished off the look.
While I am overjoyed that the warm weather is back again, I am sad to have to return my black jean and suede collection to the back of my closet. Alas, black shorts and khaki colored dresses will certainly be taking their place in the near future.
