STYLE GURU STYLE: Keeping Up With The Parisians

Fitting in with fashion’s elite isn’t exactly black and white, or rather, I suppose it is. You don’t need the best brands or the most daring silhouettes to be a part of this Franco culture. Instead, stick to their code of contrast and simplicity. Whether I’m walking the Marais or the gardens of Chateau de Vincennes, I always feel appropriately dressed when I stick to the basics.

In a city filled with history and culture, there’s something so comforting about the clean lines and logical grids of any black and white ensemble. Modern, cool and always flattering, this look can be worn and reworn by anyone. Now, normally I am all for the pop of color, but in this city, it’s almost more chic to stay neutral.

Black and white, a trend that has resurfaced in at least a couple of shows every season, makes a strike in the 2016 resort collection in Josh Goot’s new line. The innovation of this contrasting color scheme (or lack thereof) is that it emphasizes the construction and aesthetic of each look. A trend that never goes out of style, no matter where you are or what you’re doing, is something to take note of.

To take this trend home, all you need is a strong, vertical pattern and neutral makeup. To play up this contrast further, you can highlight your brows and contour your cheeks. Sleek, chic and magnifique!
