STYLE GURU STYLE: Keeping It Classy

With school coming back in session, it gives everyone a good excuse to go back-to- school shopping. For college students in Michigan, that means Hunter Boots, comfy sweaters and The North Face puffer vests. However, those beloved fall clothes cannot be worn till the temperatures cool down. This means pulling out your summer clothes for their last chance to shine. A summer favorite is the crop top, but is that really appropriate for class? I took a look at Alexander Wang’s approach to the sophisticated crop, and his rendition made me change my mind.

In Wang’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, he dressed up the crop top to look professional and chic. He proved that showing midriff could be classy. Obviously there are boundaries when it comes to balancing out your cropped look. This means pairing your top with the right bottom. This is done excellently in look 40, where Wang paired a gorgeous cutout crop top with high-waisted trousers.

By taking inspiration from Wang’s ready-to-wear collection, I was able to take my crop top to class, literally. I combined my V-neck crop top with a cute pair of scalloped shorts. This classy combo is not only great for class but also for countless occasions you simply did not believe crop tops could be worn to. Think girl’s night out, weekend wear or even date night.

I kept my look simple, just like Wang did, by sporting gladiator sandals. This comfy option is practical and stylish. To continue keeping it classy, I opted for my white kate spade purse. Other accessories include sleek shades, gold earrings and flash tattoos.
