STYLE GURU STYLE: Keep it Light and Breezy

Woah! Saying “it’s hot” is a massive understatement. Summer days in New Orleans often come with a lot of humidity but also fun things to do outdoors. Many locals keep cool with snow-balls and/or ice cream. As for outfit options, most people immediately go for lighter weight pieces. The Alberta Ferretti spring 2015 ready-to-wear  collection consists of light, airy pieces that will make you want to skip through a field of flowers. The collection featured both structured and looser fitting pieces in a muted color palette and floral motifs.

Inspired by the collection’s bohemian vibe, I chose a loose fitting dress from Free People. The shape of the dress makes for easy everyday wear. The bold print and red hue take center stage by becoming the statement piece. The slip takes the place of a plain T-shirt while giving a more bohemian look to a classic floral print. The shorter length on this dress had me looking for a little extra coverage without detracting from the gorgeous print. Comfortable and cute, these navy lace shorts are a cooler option when compared to denim shorts. The shorts also provide a layer of security on particularly windy days.

Because I loved the muted tones in the Alberta Ferretti show, I chose to keep my accessories minimal. Instead of brown leather sandals, I opted for clean white Birkenstock sandals. Easy to slip on and off, these shoes make running errands in a sweltering city that much easier.
