STYLE GURU STYLE: I’ve Goth This

When I first heard about Marc Jacobs’ new line bringing back the classic Goth look, my soul felt rejuvenated… I am Goth at heart. It is a style that can be very taboo depending on where you are in the world, but it can be so beautiful. Goth has so much potential to be beautiful yet dark and mysterious. Marc Jacobs Fall 2016 ready-to-wear line did such a wonderful job encapsulating true Goth, and that is why I based my look off of this line.

Marc Jacobs’ runway consisted of lots of black, lace, plastic, leather, and platforms (it’s like they’re screaming my name). For my look, I took pieces from my former Goth stages in life and made the look he presented slightly more wearable for daily life!

The dress I am wearing is black, white, and red checkered, checkered patterns and these colors are carried throughout the Marc Jacobs line. There is also a metal zipper down the center of the dress, which I think really adds to its uniqueness, and Industrial-Goth look. Underneath the dress, I used a simple black crop top from H&M to layer and add a little more to the look. I think the black shirt underneath ties all the different colors together really nicely.

For shoes I broke out my classic Garden of Earthly Delights Dr. Martens. These shoes are everything Goth and more because of the dark meaning behind the painting they convey. I am literally obsessed with these, everyone should invest in a nice pair of Dr. Martens, they are worth the cost to this Fashionista. With these shoes I scrunched down some knee high maroon socks to tie in the red from my dress, and the red from my shoes all together.

Lastly, the little details in my outfit, including my ribbon choker and dark makeup, made this look come full circle Goth. I made my choker from some black ribbon I found in my house and just tied it in a bow around my neck. I really like this because it adds a lot of uniqueness to the look! The makeup I chose was very dark, I think the blood red lip tied it all up, it brings out all of the red throughout my outfit and leaves people feeling slightly intimidated… is she a vampire or just a trendy girl taking makeup risks? Make ‘em think.
