STYLE GURU STYLE: It’s Black and White

As I have stated in a few other articles, I wear a lot of black; however, I thought I should lighten up my wardrobe for the summer. The easy solution was to add white. As seen in the DKNY resort 2016 collection, which was predominantly black and white, monochromatic outfits can be made to work for any season.

Dressed in black and white, you will look sophisticated, put together and effortlessly cool. I love the contrast between the two colors; black is tough and serious while white is soft and airy. This contrast makes an outfit like this very versatile. You can wear it for various occasions and can easily dress it up or down. Like the DKNY show exhibited, a black and white outfit leads to a sharp, contemporary look.

While I love the simplicity and effortlessness of a monochromatic ensemble, I added a little bit of color and pattern to my outfit to make it a tad more summery. A bright pink lip and a pop of leopard print will do this for you. The addition of color and print just make the outfit feel more casual and fun. I further accessorized with a simple layered necklace and a pair of chunky sandals with cutouts. My accessories add depth to my outfit but are kept minimal, so they do not take away from the bold black and white contrast that is the heart of the look.

Get My Look: 1. A white wrap top. 2. An animal print purse. 3. A layered necklace. 4. Pink lipstick.
