STYLE GURU STYLE: In A Barbie World

Since Jeremy Scott has become the creative director of Moschino, the world has been witnessing some extremely animated and pop culture-influenced collections from the Italian fashion house. In Moschino’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection, the theme revolved around the world of Barbie and her fabulous wardrobe. Many models were dressed in all-pink ensembles with preppy blonde wigs and the newest must-have accessories. This particular collection was my favorite for many reasons; the main reason being that I love wearing pink, and not just on Wednesdays. The all-pink Barbie-inspired look was one I’ve been waiting to translate into my own wardrobe and I jumped at the opportunity to do so.

For my day dressed as a Barbie, I chose to rock pink from my lipstick to my toenails. I paired a light pink fuzzy sweater with a hot pink pencil skirt. This combination of textures created a sophisticated but still fun look that I could easily wear for a meeting, out with friends or, in this case, just an afternoon in the city.

Over the top of my outfit, I wore a hot pink trench coat that added more detail to my outfit as a whole since I chose to go without wearing jewelry. For shoes, I wore a pair of hot pink pumps which, in my opinion, I feel every girl should keep on-hand. A hot pink shoe can literally be worn to dress up any outfit from a pair of boyfriend jeans and a T-shirt to a pair of joggers and a fitted hoodie.

I’m sure this won’t be my only attempt at pulling off the all-pink look this year. I absolutely love the challenge of monochromatic dressing and it has been refreshing to try a color other than all-black for once. I encourage you to look to Moschino for some inspiration to incorporate some fun and unexpected looks in your wardrobe.
