STYLE GURU STYLE: Historical Floral

Summer is always a great time for dresses. I don’t know about you, but I think dresses are much more comfortable and cooler than shorts. If I wanted to buy every dress I fell in love with, I’d have to find some fancier events to go to (and a winning lottery ticket). Thankfully, some days do entail nicer attire. Daytime events let me choose to add more color in my outfit than usual. The location is also important to me because it can affect what I plan to wear as well. Always keep the time and location in mind when you’re planning an outfit!

The Michael Kors spring 2015 ready-to-wear line really inspired my outfit for brunch at a historical inn and restaurant. I felt like the pink floral print really pops against the white fabric and the stone buildings around me. The square neckline of this tea-length dress really brought back the ‘90s to me but it a modern and feminine way. Together, my dress combines the two that makes me think of heading to a tea party or a nice day event during the summer.

What I love about this dress is that it’s perfect for any summer event that involves getting dressed up, especially at such a beautiful and historic location. The flowing fabric is lightweight and blows in the breeze while the white and pink add a colorful and bold touch. The pink floral adds a fun and bright element, while the ‘90s square neckline adds a bit of a sleeker touch. I love how there is a high-low hem that’s layered, because it gives the dress better movement. I added a skinny belt to nip in my waist because this dress is actually a shift dress. My nude pumps helped elongate my legs and also add a polished look to my outfit with the pointed toes. Finishing touches included my beloved My Diary Skinny Bags purse, Power Clutch Essie nail polish and loose waves in my hair.

Get My Look: 1. A floral dress. 2. Skinny belt. 3. Polished nude pumps.
