STYLE GURU STYLE: Here Comes The Cold

Recently, I happened to stumble upon Pierre Balmain’s spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection, full of detailed waists, houndstooth patterns and gorgeous embellishments. I fell in love with the relaxed coats, the cinched waistlines, the high-heeled booties and the gold chained statement necklaces featured in this collection. One look inspired me the most—a houndstooth cardigan belted with a black chained belt, all paired with a black, ruffled skirt that fell to the knees. This gorgeous outfit was finished off with black high-heeled booties that had some gold accents on the toes.

During the winter months, a warm coat is an absolute must-have when walking around campus. Sometimes it can be a little tricky finding a coat that keeps you warm but also keeps you looking fashionable. I fell in love with this beautiful ’70s houndstooth wool coat while shopping at a little vintage boutique. I knew it would be perfect for those icy cold days on campus, and it wouldn’t blend in like a regular dark-colored coat would.

I was so proud of my new find and couldn’t wait to put together a perfect outfit to wear with it. When I started looking through my closet, I felt a little stumped. After I found the Pierre Balmain spring 2014 collection, I knew exactly what to pair my new vintage coat with. I went monochromatic underneath by wearing a black Urban Outfitters lace dress, black tights and black wedged booties detailed with silver rhinestones and spikes on the heels. I accessorized with an Express pearl necklace and a vintage beaded handbag. I topped my look off with neutral eyes and a matte raspberry lip.

With the cold weather here and the snow that is fast approaching, I’m so happy I found the perfect coat to keep me warm and fashionable at the same time.

Get My Look: 1. A vintage houndstooth coat. 2. Black lace dress. 3. High-heeled booties.
