STYLE GURU STYLE: Gotta Run

If you read my spring semester STYLE GURU BIO then you know that when it comes to fashion, I tend to gravitate towards pieces that are comfortable. So of course when I saw the adidas by Stella McCartney spring collection I couldn’t get enough. The collaboration celebrated their tenth anniversary with their spring show. The original concept of the very first adidas by Stella McCartney collection was that workout clothes should be stylish because the everyday woman wears them regularly, not just to the gym. At the time, the glamorization of athletic wear was not an idea that anyone had really elaborated on. Today, many other designers have embraced sporty chic. But the collaboration was able to stand out among the competition by creating a series of feminine yet functional pieces. The show included bright and neutral colors, floral prints, seamless leggings and “scuba-inspired studio tops.” After viewing the collection I was obsessed and had to create a look of my own.

With the idea of sporty chic in mind, I had to integrate different pieces of both formal and casual into the look. To start off, I decided to create a color palette that was dark and neutral. I paired my favorite charcoal gray leggings with a graphic T-shirt and a textured black cardigan with faux leather detail. I have a pair of all black Nikes but sadly they’re strictly reserved for work and rightfully so because they’re pretty gross. So instead, I reached for my rubber Chuck Taylors. After months of obsessively stalking these bad boys on the Converse website, I got them for Christmas (thanks Mom and Dad, you’re the real MVPs). I can’t tell you how much I love these shoes and the fact that they’re rubber is what makes them so unique. Their durable material also allows me to wear them in the snow and rain too. To give the look more of a glamorous element, I added my new Olivia + Joy bag. Its ivory handles and metallic hardware are absolutely beautiful. I could probably tote around my cat in it along with a number of other things, but honestly I usually only keep a handful of items tucked away in this ginormous purse. Because my bag made such a statement, I kept my jewelry minimal with a gold watch, moon-shaped stud earrings and a few midi rings. I finished the look with messy hair and blue aviators for a pop of color.

If you’re someone who loves comfort but still wants to remain trendy, try pairing your favorite workout gear with other pieces from your wardrobe for an unexpected but cool look.
