STYLE GURU STYLE: Giving Boots a New Measure

Winter is the perfect time of year to show off your fashionable coats and crowd pleasing shoes. This season has been all about expressive coats and thigh-high boots. My outfit was influenced by the alice + olivia fall 2015 collection because of the concept of a feminine A-line classic dress mixed with a leather thigh-high boot. alice + olivia’s brand is very successful in representing women in a feminine manner with an all around classy and sexy look. I admire that the brand represents true New York City fashion; it influences my style because it reveals the glamour and excitement I feel around the city.

It is ironic how in the past we originally used boots for warmth and now they are used specifically as a fashion item to make you stand out from the crowd. Recently I have noticed the thigh-high boot has been sold in both affordable and high-end stores from Stuart Weitzman to ALDO. The thigh-high boot was first worn by celebrities and fashion icons and has impacted this generation. I like how we can represent fashion from past decades and transform it into today’s fashion. For instance the boots I am wearing in the photo reminded me of the of go-go boots from the ’60s because of the material but the height is clearly influenced by today’s style.

Personally, I was not a fan of the over-the-knee boot until I saw these VINCE boots. I fell in love with the color and silhouette of the boot because they reminded me of a Dior boot because of its futuristic and odd color. I wanted my look to be different than the usual thigh-high boot and tight simplistic dress ensemble. Instead I wanted my look to appear more sophisticated and glamorous. My accessories had to stand out as well, so I wore a unique ribbon ring and a striking silver belt.

I think thigh-high boots will continue as a trend through the springtime, especially paired with a  romper or a short mini dress. The boots can easily be worn to spice up your wardrobe if you prefer a casual look such as a pair of  blue jeans and a white tee.

Get My Look: 1. Coat.  2. Shoes. 3. Dress.
