STYLE GURU STYLE: Free the Fringe

Rebecca Minkoff’s recent runway show for her fall 2015 ready-to-wear line was the perfect blast from the past. The clothing exhibited a free-flowing structure, playing upon a modern version of a bohemian and hippie-inspired feel. These looks immediately grabbed my attention as I fell in love with her use of layering and the combinations of different textures and patterns. One of the main, featured details repeatedly expressed throughout the collection was fringe. Fringe was used as a detailed accent on all articles of clothing and accessories. Whether it was the shirt, shoes, sweater or pocketbook, fringe stood out as the completing aspect of the look. This hippie-inspired feature complemented the free movement of the clothing and transformed a past trend into one of a modern desire.

As a lover of bohemian-inspired patterns and clothing, Rebecca Minkoff’s fall line left me enthused and eager to find ways to creatively incorporate her ideas into my own style. Her use of fringe really caught my attention. Today, rather than wearing a plain black sweater like I typically would, I decided to switch up my look. This fringe bottom sweater works as a statement and defining piece in the outfit. The addition of the fringe adds a unique and trendy aspect to the oversized sweater that is characteristic of my style. This simple detail changes the outfit completely and acts as an eye-catching feature of the ensemble. Because of this detail, the outfit does not require the combination of many other components. The pairing of this sweater with black jeans works to keep the focus on the statement made by the sweater, allowing it to stand out. The neutral colored boots that I am wearing are not only perfect for the cold winter weather, but also tastefully complement the colors in the sweater.

This fall 2015 runway show has encouraged me to break away from my simple style and to embrace detail. The free-flowing trend of fringe is one that I will definitely look to incorporate into more of my outfits!

Get My Look: 1. An oversized sweater with fringe detail. 2. A crisp pair of black jeans. 3. A pair of mid-length boots.
