STYLE GURU STYLE: Flower With Some Power

When it comes to designers, Valentino has always been a soft spot of mine. His streamline silhouettes always appear so effortlessly ethereal. His eye for detail never ceases to inspire me either. That’s why, when I came across his resort 2016 line, I had to pounce on creating a look of my own. Each look of his was expertly crafted, ranging from black mesh with colorful beading to flowing gowns with playful patterns. Every model was styled with soft, feminine touches such as minimal makeup and flowers braided in their hair. Nonetheless, many still had their own fierce kick of flavor added in by dark lace, leather fringe or black heeled booties. The whole line took on an edgy, bohemian vibe with expert execution.

When it came to tackling my own translation of this line, I immediately knew look 43 would be the one. I loved how the patterns strung together were so different from one another yet never overpowered each other. They were each so colorful, but the colors were more subtle than overbearing. I set down my laptop and sprinted to my closet with excitement that I had just the babydoll dress to do the trick. I decided to put my own spin on the hairstyle by leaving mine down but still adding in braids and flowers. Looking in the mirror at that point, I was happy with how natural and down-to-earth the outfit was, but I was not yet satisfied. I needed to add my own edgy kick.

Valentino’s line would definitely not have had such an impact on me if it only showed delicate flowers. The reason I love it so much is because it had some power! So instead of slipping on sandals, I spiced things up with my new sapphire blue heels. My look was finally taking the turn I needed it to. To bring all of the colors and prints together, I slung my leather purse over my shoulder and added a black scrunchie to my wrist. Of course, I couldn’t resist adding a few rings, because rings are my favorite outfit topper.

Interpreting Valentino’s resort 2016 line would be the perfect way to make a statement this summer. Simply take something floral you already own and add some edgy accessories!
