STYLE GURU STYLE: Flouncing in Floral

“Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada definitely knows what’s best when it comes to fashion, and although a floral dress is great for the warmer seasons, it can get a bit boring. The best way to wear florals during the spring and summer months is to make your look more interesting by picking unique prints and adding fun accessories.

I was inspired by Dorothee Schumacher’s Berlin spring 2017 collection which featured florals in a new and exciting way. The florals I found most unique were those with a navy background and pieces that were combined with bold jackets and shoes. Schumacher succeeded in making floral look sophisticated and trendy.

I created my own look based off Schumacher’s collection with this navy floral dress. This dress is a great addition to your summer wardrobe because of how loose and breathable it is. I love how the sleeves are cinched around the elbow area and again at the wrists, and especially how I don’t own anything similar to this style.

To make this look more personal, I added some tassel necklaces to make some of the teal shades of blue pop within the dress. The tassels are reminiscent of ’70s styles which have been seen all over runways for months now. I dressed up my look by adding a pair of nude platform wedges. I personally love these wedges because they’re super comfortable and any wedge that is easy to walk in automatically wins in my eyes. Platforms are increasingly becoming more popular this season and I can easily see why.

To contrast the navy, I put on a bright pink lip color. I think pink and navy really compliment each other and a highly pigmented pink is perfect for the summertime.

Get My Look: 1. Navy floral dress. 2. Tassel necklaces. 3. Nude platform wedges. 4. Bright pink lipstick.
