STYLE GURU STYLE: Floral Flouncy

It is an interesting time for the house of Oscar de la Renta, as Peter Copping comes into his own at the label. This transition reaches fruition in the Oscar de la Renta resort 2016 collection. It is no surprise that change brings new ideas; however, Copping’s first resort collection for Oscar de la Renta is full of dramatic, beautiful pieces that I believe do the late designer true justice.

Although the label is best known for elegant, stunning evening gowns, the Oscar de la Renta resort 2016 collection features plenty of florals and flouncy, feminine skirts (belted at the waist). Shades of blue and various degrees of A-line skirt shapes are found throughout the collection. These looks are perfect targets for an everyday style translation.

I transformed this trend from suiting the runway to fitting my personal style through the utilization of one my favorite pieces in my closet. This floral dress is part of the Emma Watson collection from People Tree. Coincidentally, Emma is an unmistakable fan of Oscar de la Renta, who dressed the actress for premieres and red carpets several times in the past. A sundress like this one, in a traditional silhouette and covered in a small scale floral motif is a classic staple for my spring/summer wardrobe.

Finishing off the very ladylike look requires a strappy sandal heel and a simple, waist-defining belt. It’s all up to personal preference when it comes to accessories. A few looks in the collection feature some major statement jewelry. That being said, with a look like this, I wanted to avoid getting too fussy with details and chose modest accessories in order to keep all attention on my beloved dress.

Get My Look: 1. Your favorite floral print dress. 2. A belt of your choosing. 3. Strappy sandal heels.
