STYLE GURU STYLE: Finding the One

Let’s be honest: skinny jeans are never going out of fashion. I first discovered them in middle school and have been thanking the denim gods ever since. They lengthen my petite figure and look good with just about everything. Then a baggier silhouette came along. This look has dominated as of late in the world of fashion.

In general, pants that aren’t fitted intimidate me. For starters, I don’t have the longest legs. Even if I roll the pant legs up, I usually look fairly stout. On top of that, the pant legs are usually too baggy, while the waist barely leaves any room for my backside. I thought short girls were the only ones, but a tall friend told me that she has some of the same problems.

Now, though, I’m happy I didn’t give up because I recently found a pair that actually flatters my shape. Perhaps that’s why they call it the “boyfriend” jean. It isn’t always easy finding “the one.” All cheesiness aside, these jeans are really comfortable without sacrificing style. They give me the right amount of space and sit well on my hips. The color looks like a high-quality take on a vintage wash.

I have taken inspiration from the Alexander Wang resort 2016 collection and have paired these jeans with a handmade silver necklace, a white button-down from Cos and espadrilles wedges from Dolce Vita. My interpretation is less edgy and more casual, but continues the idea of the looser style of pants, from boyfriend jeans to flares.

Get My Look: 1. Loose jeans. 2. Minimalist top. 3. Platforms or sandals.
