STYLE GURU STYLE: Eyes On The Eyelet

The long awaited warm weather has finally arrived on the East Coast! It’s finally time to shed all the bulky layers you piled on during the cold winter months and trade them for light and airy pieces. This season is all about layers, textures and flirty details! The spring 2015 runways were filled with light colors like white and ivory, which are of course perfect for this time of year—they create a very crisp look. Bralettes also had a strong presence on the runway, which is no surprise because they are easy, breezy, comfortable and a key layering piece.

One of my favorite runway looks this season was look number 11 from Rebecca Minkoff’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This look had such a classic and clean style to it. The model rocked a circle eyelet top which was tucked into a mid length, blue and white striped skirt. Now, my devoted readers are probably staring at their screens with their jaws hanging open because this look is far from my usual color palette (which is black and more black). While I did use this look for inspiration, I was also able to incorporate some of my own style into my recreation of this ensemble.

My look, just like the original look, includes a white eyelet top. I love this shirt because it has that clean look that I’m really digging this season. Also, it’s lightweight and comfortable to wear in hot weather. Underneath my top I wore a black lace bralette. As I already mentioned, bralettes are all the rage right now so if you don’t already own a few, you should definitely go shopping for some! Bralettes are pretty and they should be shown off, so don’t be afraid to wear a see-through top over them! On bottom, I wore a pair of black jeans. Yes, this is where my usual style comes into play. I decided on a pair of cropped denim because they were more appropriate for this season and they embodied the ‘midi’ look that Rebecca Minkoff’s skirt had. On my feet I wore TOMS shoes which are unbelievably comfortable and versatile. I basically live in my black TOMS shoes all spring, summer and fall.

Rebecca Minkoff’s look did not include any jewelry, but I am a lover of necklaces and earrings so I added my own touch to my ensemble in this way. I wore a blue, beaded statement necklace and silver earrings to accessorize my look. All in all, my look was very relaxed and perfect for any occasion from class to a lunch date with friends. It was comfortable but still trendy. Though I did not totally replicate the original look by Rebecca Minkoff, I took inspiration from her and created a look with the same casual but put together vibe.

Get My Look: 1. A white eyelet T-shirt. 2. A black bralette. 3. A blue statement necklace.
