STYLE GURU STYLE: In My Element

Summer is starting to fully bloom in Michigan. This means outfits can now get the attention they deserve, instead of being hidden behind a jacket. During the warmer seasons, my style tends to vary. One day I will be in menswear and the next day I’ll be in full glam. This specific day, I decided to dress it up a little.

Some of the people that I get my style inspiration from include Kim Kardashian-West and Rihanna. I found that this dress mirrors them in some way. This ivory T-shirt dress has lace-up side detailing. With that, you can cinch in the waist to give you more of an hour-glass shape figure or you can loosen the sides and make it a straight-fit dress. I personally like the side lace tied as tight as it can go because it acts as a corset, and it really flatters any body type. The top of the dress has a crew neck shape. The shoulders are a little baggier than the rest of the sleeves. There is also a thickness to the material, which is key when wearing a white dress, so that your undergarments don’t show through. This would be a kind of dress that I can really wear anywhere. Since it is a T-shirt dress, that aspect makes it more casual, or I can dress it up with heels. I like having versatile pieces in my wardrobe.

Since I decided to dress up this outfit, I added these denim, embroidered heels. Embroidery is all the summer rage and I was excited to add them to this simple outfit. Since they are denim, I can wear them with a variety of outfits. I like styling them with dresses like this or I like to pair them with a full denim outfit. The floral embroidery on the back of the heels truly makes a statement. Since it is almost summer, sunglasses are a must. I found that these black shades act as a shield against the sun. They add the perfect amount of edge with the single lens design and complete the outfit.
