STYLE GURU STYLE: Earn Your Stripes

Summer is officially in full force, and with it comes trying to put together cute outfits and attempting to look like those Instagram models that never seem to sweat. However, being a Floridian means that sweating is inevitable and that we just need to keep testing out the best types of clothes to keep cool this season.

Recently when I was looking through the runway shows for the pre-fall 2016 fashion lines, I kept seeing a few main trends throughout several different brands: black leather jackets and striped sweaters. These trends were featured in the Just Cavalli pre-fall 2016 and the Faith Connexion pre-fall 2016 fashion shows just to name a few, and are personally two styles that I already own and love! Though they are technically considered pre-fall, the majority of the outfits leaned more towards thick layers and pants rather than lighter and airy materials that could still function in Florida’s “fall.”

So for my interpretation of these upcoming runway trends, I decided to go with a day-to-night look because in this heat and humidity, wearing a leather jacket is not very practical. Instead, I opted for a lighter and more wearable look for the summer months.

To start off, I went for a striped shift dress instead of a striped sweater or blouse, and paired that with my trusty white Converse that are clearly well-loved. For the daytime version of this look, I added a light blue baseball cap that I got from Urban Outfitters, and kept my hair in a loose braid.

To transition this outfit into a more night-time appropriate look I let my hair down, ditched the hat and added the leather jacket. I kept my shoes and makeup the same for both looks, though you could always change those up too for a different, bolder look for the evening. I love this outfit because it remains casual and fashion forward, while still being appropriate for summer days/nights wherever you might be!
