STYLE GURU STYLE: Dark Bohemian Romance

For Y’s Yves Saint Laurent’s spring 2015 read-to-wear runway show, designer Hedi Slimane was clearly inspired by the ‘70s. Dresses were slinky, floral printed and made of chiffon. There were also skinny scarves, velvet, plunging necklines and head toppers galore. The collection had a dark, glam, rocker-bohemian feel to it. The models looked like they were VIP guests on their way to an after party for a Rolling Stones concert; they appeared cool, effortless and confident. After seeing the show, I was inspired to try my hand at the dark bohemian look.

The other day, I tried to achieve the Y’s Yves Saint Laurent spring 2014 ready-to-wear look. I started with a dark floral chiffon dress with a dropped-waist similar to what the models in the show wore. To add some edge, I added a black suede jacket, once again mimicking the models. Despite the show showcasing minimal jewelry, I decided to add a chunky coin necklace to my look to add a bohemian touch. I also decided to wear a beige western-inspired ankle boot to keep the look light due to all the dark colors in the rest of the outfit. A floppy hat gave the outfit its finishing touch. If I wanted to fully channel the Y’s Yves Saint Laurent girl, I would simply add sheer tights.

I wanted the look to reflect West Coast style and be festival ready while still keeping true to my personal style. Overall, this look is perfect for dancing the day away in the desert sun at Coachella.

Get My Look: 1. A dark floral chiffon dress. 2. A black jacket. 3. A floppy hat.
