STYLE GURU STYLE: D for Danger

This summer is all about revisiting trends from the good old days—the ’90s. From chokers to high-waisted pants, everybody wants in on the latest trending look, which is how to look ’90s chic with a twist. However, it’s up to a particular individual to make that trend their own. This is something I’ve done to showcase my Style Guru Style.

I pulled my inspiration from Ulyana Sergeenko’s spring 2016 couture collection, which was a show that encompassed the past and the future very tastefully. The pieces were very chic and had a mix of artistically designed women’s wear. However, Ulyana Sergeenko stayed true to the past and delivered each look with a bit of ’90s nostalgia. The pieces featured different types of chokers, each unique in its own way. Predominately, the colors white, black and red stood out to me the most in her collection.

As I mentioned earlier, my outfit was created based on this new vintage trend. I decided to put together a look that included both high-waisted pants and a choker, but I also decided to spice things up a bit. Inspired by the color choices, I decided to go with a gray top and white pants, and I created the perfect summer outfit. It wasn’t too dark for the summer heat, and was still very comfortable to wear for the cooler summer nights. I wanted this look to be versatile, so I paired it with a light handbag and some shades. You can totally sport this outfit for a casual day in the city, or a dinner date.

I wanted to be bold, so I tried a red lip that perfectly encompassed the color scheme from Sergeenko’s collection. Altogether, my outfit became a melting pot of modern and 1990s fashion.

Get My Look: 1. High-low top.  2. Any high-waisted pants.  3. A white purse.  4. A pair of heels. 5. Choker.
