STYLE GURU STYLE: Crazy About Patterns

It’s halfway through the summer, and I still can’t decide whether patterns or cutouts are my favorite trend of the season! Both are an obvious must-haves for your wardrobe. I had never seen both trends represented together in a garment until the Emilio Pucci spring 2015 ready-to-wear show. While studying abroad in Florence, Pucci’s native city, I fell in love with his clothing. This collection featured ’70s-inspired clothing. The garments were brightly decorate and many included patterns that were accompanied by cutouts; two bold trends in one garment! I loved the look, and searched high and low to find something similar. I strolled into Zara one day and this brightly colored, flowered printed romper with a cutout caught my eye.

My look is more casual than most of the dresses featured in the show. I loved the cutout under the bust! It’s simple, but needed; without it my body would get lost in the loud pattern. Be careful when purchasing clothing with cutouts since excessive amounts of cutouts can be to revealing. Although cutouts are very trendy and chic, they are not appropriate for every event. I would wear this around town, to a concert or to a summer party. The ’70s-inspired, bright, flowery pattern is adorable. I love to wear patterns; I think they are fun, chic and can look good on anyone!

I accompanied this trendy romper with white strappy sandals and a brown fringe purse. My favorite part of the romper is that the back reveals the shorts while the front appears to be a skirt; it is a good old-fashioned skort! I haven’t seen one of those in a while!

When purchasing a dress or romper, find a pattern that goes with your personality and style. Everyone’s body is differently shaped, so find a garment that has the cutouts in the places that will best flatter your body.

Get My Look: 1. A patterned romper/dress with cutouts. 2. Strappy sandals. 3. Fringe purse.
