STYLE GURU STYLE: Cozy Days Are The Best Days

If you read my STYLE GURU BIO, then you know that if an article of clothing screams cute and comfy, I’m all about it! When I came across the Elizabeth and James pre-fall 2015 collection, I adored how the pieces were all super laid back and wearable. I also loved how everything was either white, black or navy with minimal pops of color. The Olson twins (designers behind Elizabeth and James) were my childhood, and I’m delighted with how prominent they are in the fashion industry. I’m for sure going to keep a close eye on their future creations!

Being that this collection was mainly composed of long sleeves, long pants, long skirts, and turtlenecks, it’s safe to say that these garments are perfect for mixing and matching on chilly days. Upon seeing the collection, I knew that I wanted to put together an ensemble that emulated the relaxed vibe but at the same time highlighted my personal style.

I decided to do a basic black legging because I only wear pants when absolutely necessary, and the model in looks two and nine is sporting a skinny black pant that provides a nice backdrop for the bolder pieces in the outfit.

I had originally planned to wear just a simple black top to go with the monochromatic theme of the collection. It turns out, however, that I didn’t have a clean black shirt that day. So instead, I opted for a blush colored long sleeve top. Because it was so close to my skin tone, it served the purpose of a neutral underneath my cape.

My fringed, houndstooth patterned cape was my favorite part of this ensemble! I was definitely inspired by the oversized cape-like kimono in look four. The pattern is bold, yet understated, and a girl can never go wrong with houndstooth in the fall and winter months due to its timelessness and versatility.

I finished off my outfit with this adorable black and white patterned bobble hat, because, let’s be real, the winter months and my hair are not friends, and my mane was just not looking on point this day. This hat provided the perfect fix!

For accessories, I went with a simple gold necklace and a bold gold bracelet that I chose to wear over the sleeve to give it more of a cuff-like look and to make sure it stood out. For footwear, I went with my trusty and beloved UGGs. I don’t wear these all the time, but on this day I wanted to be cozy from head to toe.

I’m definitely going to take advantage of these chilly upcoming months by staying warm and comfy!
