STYLE GURU STYLE: Color to the Maxi

Summer dressing can be hard. You spend your time trying to pick out the perfect outfit for weekend hangouts and getaways with your friends, but it’s hard to stand out in a sea of shorts and tank tops. Luckily, with summer comes the many resort shows from our favorite designers like Moschino and Valentino.

One of the shows that stood out to me was Tome with their oversized silhouettes and mixing of both bright and neutral colors throughout the show. Since I typically wear all-black outfits all year, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and recreate one of the more colorful looks of the collection.

My favorite look from the show had a long sleeve top, but it’s summer and it’s way too hot for that. So, I switched it out for a similar colored crop top. I already owned the skirt, but maxi skirts are everywhere so just pick up a solid bright skirt in a complementary (or contrasting if you’re bold like that) color to keep the outfit cohesive and not crazy.

The accessories throughout the whole show were pretty minimal, but I decided to add a couple of bracelets for some flair and slipped on some brown sandals similar to those in the show.

The finishing touch on this look, I think, is the makeup and hair. It’s summer, so who wants to wear a full face of makeup and sweat all day? I used a BB cream to blur imperfections and a little mascara to define my lashes. With makeup this minimal, I won’t feel like my face is melting off when the temperature creeps closer and closer to 100 degrees. I left my hair down and with it’s natural texture, because trying to do anything with my hair is basically useless once I step outside into the summer humidity.

Just grabbing basic bright pieces from your closet can really elevate your look from basic to stand out this summer, so experiment with something other than shorts and a T-shirt for that trip to the nearest ice cream store.

Get My Look: 1. Blue crop top. 2. Colorful maxi skirt. 3. Brown sandals. 4. Bare face.
