STYLE GURU STYLE: Classic With A Side Of Edge, Please

Blazers, jackets and coats are a weakness of mine. I often find myself buying jackets year-round because of their sophisticated look and simplicity. Whether it is a tailored tuxedo blazer or a cropped sweater jacket, they all symbolize sophistication and class due to the modest exposure and timeless silhouette. There is nothing more attractive than a female sporting a structured jacket of some sort and looking feminine doing so. For this reason, they have become a classic staple in my wardrobe that I will continue to incorporate.

When I saw Issa’s resort 2016 collection, I immediately fell into obsession. The brand is known for its polished femininity because of its flowy dresses and princess looks. After all, Kate Middleton did wear an Issa dress in her engagement photos, giving the brand its original inspiration. However, this collection was edgier than usual. Hemlines were higher compared to previous lengths, and there was an added focus on embroidery and bold color choices. The deep blues were in many of the patterns and often contrasted with black, which made the overall look bold.

To imitate this particular collection, I wore a cropped sweater jacket. I found the bold blue color to be similar to the hue represented in the Issa collection. My sweater has a floral print with raised floral embellishments, adding femininity and uniqueness. I chose to pair this jacket with high-waisted white jeans to offset the cropped length of the sweater. I layered a black cotton camisole to add more contrast to the mix. For the shoes, my leather sandals were my go-to choice because the rich and warm colored leather matches perfectly with the bold blue. It also gives the overall outfit a less stiff appearance, making it versatile for many occasions. For the last piece, I wore a neutral colored bag with scalloped edges, giving a feminine touch.

Although a jacket can be often a broad description of clothing, all styles you choose will give you the same look. Whether you choose to sport a summer and spring style or fall and winter styled jacket, you will never fail to look timeless and chic with this staple piece. Putting structured jackets with softer and more relaxed pieces, such as jeans, can give a completely new appeal that will make you feel like a princess of the streets.
