STYLE GURU STYLE: Cherry On Top

I prefer to reinvent rather than recreate as often as possible which led me to the look you see above. I took inspiration from several different runway shows and combined them into an outfit that included: one hanging blazer, a shirt dress loving and knee-high hugging outfit. I recently purchased this long tailored jacket that I wanted to debut ASAP after seeing a longer more sheer variation walking down the Akris fall 2015 ready-to-wear runway. While I love all-black, I chose to go a different route playing more with color and baring more skin. I chose to layer my staple white shirt dress with my favorite graphic T-shirt from Zara to offset the tailoring. I also felt a similar mix of elements in the Chloé show where tailored pieces suddenly were diluted in a high fashion form with loose-flowing and untapered garments. You could even take Milly’s collection and see that same vibe through the use of long jackets and blazers paired with peek-a-boo colors. All simplistic, and all very expensive. Therefore, it’s my job as a Fashionista to take those haute-couture pieces and make them buyable and wearable at an attainable price point.

I went with a tan knee-high heel mainly because when I wear something that falls above the knee I always feel like I need a boot, heel or wrap sandal that keeps the eyes involved down to the feet. I think a lot of times an awesome higher hemmed outfit can get lost when you get down to the shoes because of the space your legs create between the two. For instance, envision a tan pair of thong sandals with this look in place of the boots as it simply wouldn’t do any justice for the outfit. The boots are my interpretation of head to toe entertainment (insert salsa dancing girl emoji here).

What really brushed the look up was the red lip I matched to the red design on my shirt. It gave the outfit a polished finish and a professional feel—the perfect cherry on top to complete any look. I’d suggest this kind of combination for a position such as a well dressed unpaid intern in New York or an impromptu meeting that says, “I mean business, but lets be casual about it.”

Get My Look: 1. Statement jacket. 2. Knee-high heel boots. 3. Pop of red lips. 4. A simple graphic T-shirt.
