STYLE GURU STYLE: Carolina On My Mind

This summer has been filled with hazy skies and high humidity, how horrific! This kind of weather can be such a dread to go outside in, which is why it is essential to stay cool. In Carolina Herrera’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection she features a lot of loose dresses and skirts, which are great for the hot months. Dark colors can make people feel even hotter, and that is where Herrera is extremely smart, she uses many bright and light colors that include: white, cream, yellow and orange. Other than colors, the designer only uses one design: a flower. The flower is similar on all of the garments but is bigger on some and repeated on others; while the design is so simplistic it is classy and adds a lot to the collection, in a way it completes it.

After looking at all of the photographs from Herrera’s show, I wanted so many of the pieces! But of course on a college budget I just don’t think that is possible! Instead, I found a maxi dress that had a simple flower design on it, that I thought recreated her look perfectly. The light color, flower design and sleeves on the dress embodied everything Herrera had featured. Since I was only walking around campus, I figured I should just go for a flat sandal rather than heels; I continued the flower pattern down to my toes with wooden sandals.

While I love feeling elegant, I also love to be funky; therefore I had to add my own touch. This touch was super easy with my sunglasses, which are oversized and have mirrored frames; I have become completely obsessed with them this summer. Getting inspiration from designer’s runway shows is so much fun and the best way to see what is going to be trending, no better way to spend the summer days!
