STYLE GURU STYLE: Burberry Bliss

Despite my undying love for the classic Burberry trench coat, I don’t usually find myself drawn to the British house’s seasonal lines. I’ve always preferred flowing, carefree and even messy collections that allow me to pile on as many layers and accessories as possible without going overboard. This spring, Christopher Bailey and company won me over with an unusually bohemian ready-to-wear collection.

For my inspired look, I incorporated a few of the main trends that reappeared throughout the spring line. The weather isn’t quite ready for sandals just yet, so I kept the gold and black theme and translated it to these much-loved boots. The heel height is perfect for every day, but I find that this black and gold snakeskin-esque pattern is a little too ostentatious for class, so I wear them going out nearly every opportunity. Burberry went a little (or a lot, considering their history) moto-chic for this collection, and this two-tone jacket is the perfect way to dress-down a nice dress. Now that it’s warming up in the spring months, I can get away with a lighter jacket that allows my style to shine through and not be stifled under a huge down coat.

Bailey stuck to neutral tones for much of the collection, but one deep mauve/berry dress stood out in particular and made me immediately think of this H&M piece stashed away in my wardrobe. It’s a super comfortable and has just enough interesting detail in the bodice to complement your other accessories, but not overpower them.

My personal favorite, and I think the favorite of a lot of the fashion community, was the monogrammed backpacks the models wore down the runway. I unfortunately don’t have my own Burberry backpack, but this Zara one is functional and fabulous. The gold accents go with the zippers on my jacket and boots—plus it has tons of room in the two compartments. It’s the perfect alternative for a college student’s budget.

I can’t wait to hit the town in this look because not only is it fancy and chic, but it’s also one of those rare looks that can be practical too. I know I won’t get tired wearing too high of heels, I’ll be warm in my leather jacket and whatever I pick up during the night will fit safely in my backpack–what more can a girl ask for?

Get My Look: 1. Statement boots. 2. Leather jacket. 3. Versatile dress 4. Backpack.
