STYLE GURU STYLE: Brighter the Better

Every morning when I pick out my outfit, I always find a way to incorporate a pop of color into my look. It can be as subtle as my nail color or as obvious as my high-waisted skirt. I created my featured look when I came across the alice + olivia spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway collection. Designer Stacey Bendet was inspired by the modern art pieces in Versailles, which is apparent by the patterns and prints featured. This collection is also full of bright colors and patterns that are ideal for the summer season. All of the colors are vibrant and loud—definitely capable of attracting attention. But wearing any piece from alice + olivia’s collection would attract the attention of any Fashionista/o and cause major outfit envy.

To recreate a similar look from the collection, I wore a plain white crop top and flowy coral maxi skirt. Both of these pieces are must-haves for summer. Crop tops are great because you can mix and match them with pieces you already own, and maxi skirts can be wore for a day at the beach or for a dinner date at night. As seen in the alice + olivia collection, the color of my maxi skirt is similar to the shade of pink chosen for Bendet’s designs. It is also my essential pop of color! Adding to the vibrant color, I accessorized with a color blocking clutch in pink shades. The colors of my clutch enhance the statement that the maxi skirt is making.

Designer Stacey Bendet kept her clothing designs the focal point of this collection. Each look does not have big statement accessories, except for a pair of high heels or a purse here and there when a pop of colored is needed. I agree with this minimalist approach when it comes to wearing bright colors and patterns. If you accessorize with bold jewelry or heavy makeup, it takes the attention away from your outfit and creates an overwhelming look. If you want to accessorize but keep the focus, do what I did and opt for wearing rings. I absolutely love finishing any look by accessorizing with rings. I either wear at least three simple rings at a time or one larger statement ring. This is the best and easiest way to accessorize a bold outfit.

Get My Look: 1. A plain white crop top. 2. A bright-colored maxi skirt. 3. A bright-colored clutch.
