STYLE GURU STYLE: Booties

I’m visiting New York for a couple of days this June, and I couldn’t be more excited. So, in order to avoid looking like a complete tourist on my trip, I was researched New York City fashion. Among the sea of black, simple but totally chic, I noticed one staple for New Yorkers in particular: booties. Later, while browsing different fashion shows and runway trends, I noticed that the beautiful Christian Dior resort collection for 2016 was also almost entirely made up of booties. Whether it was shorts, pants or a dress, the models were all sporting adorable and edgy black booties.

It added an edge to the otherwise feminine designs, which is a look that I absolutely love. If you looked at the outfits without the booties, they were obviously still incredible (I mean it’s Dior) but they were also incomplete. If they would have featured neutral shoes instead, it would have needed a little something extra; the black booties completed each and every outfit. So, naturally, I took these two things as a sign to go out and buy a pair of booties.

I mimicked this runway trend by incorporating the black booties into an otherwise simple outfit, like the New Yorkers do. I opted for my brand new pair of distressed boyfriend jeans from Lucky Brand. I hadn’t jumped on the boyfriend jean trend yet, but Lucky was having a great sale. I’ve been wanting to try them out for a while and I am so glad that I did. They quickly became my favorite pair of jeans, and the black booties complemented them so well.

I sported a plain white tee, adding to the simplicity of the outfit and letting the focus be on the booties. I gave the outfit a feminine touch by wearing my Kiel James Patrick Vickers Bow Bracelet and Alex and Ani bracelets. Finally, I added my trendy Prada Oversized Baroque Round Sunglasses as another accent, along with my black Kate Spade handbag and signature red lipstick. What I love about this outfit is that it can be worn just about anywhere, and can easily be taken from day to night by swapping out the white T-shirt for a dressier black blouse.

I love this outfit and I’ll be rocking it both at home and in New York, but booties go a lot further than this. Just as the Dior collection shows, they can be the perfect addition to shorts, pants or a cute dress. So, go ahead and be daring, Fashionistas! Have fun pairing booties with different outfits and see what you can come up with!
